We Need Foster Homes!

At Doberman Rescue of Nebraska, Inc., foster homes are essential to our mission. They greatly reduce boarding costs, allowing our budget to focus on rescue and placement operations. By joining our 100% volunteer organization, you can make a significant impact on the lives of these deserving Dobermans.

Doberman Rescue of Nebraska, Inc. is a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on rescuing Dobermans from various challenging situations, including overcrowded shelters, owners who can no longer care for them, and strays whose owners have not attempted to locate them.

Each rescued Doberman receives immediate medical attention, including spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and any necessary treatments from a veterinarian. Following their medical care, these dogs typically enter foster homes, where compassionate foster parents work diligently to help them achieve basic obedience, housebreaking, and proper socialization.

Many of the Dobermans we rescue have faced neglect, both nutritionally and emotionally. Our socialization process is crucial in promoting their confidence, willingness to learn, and trust in humans. For many of these dogs, this experience represents the first time they have encountered love and kindness.

Some of What to Expect
Fostering a Doberman is a rewarding experience that requires patience, compassion, and a gentle hand of correction. Many of our dogs come from abusive backgrounds and need time to heal and learn to trust again.

They thrive on human contact and interaction, which helps them feel safe and secure in their new environment. Providing a comfortable bed and a predictable routine is essential for their emotional well-being. As they begin to relax and settle in, you’ll start to witness the goofy, quirky, and dorky side of Dobermans that makes them such lovable companions.

Your support and understanding can help these incredible dogs flourish and find their forever homes, and in return, you’ll gain a loyal friend who will fill your life with joy and laughter.

Fostering Criteria:

To ensure the best environment for our Dobermans, we have established specific criteria for fostering:

All fosters must complete the same application used for adoption, pass a reference and vet check, and undergo a home visit.
Fosters must be at least 19 years of age.
All dogs and cats owned by fosters must be up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered.
Children in foster homes must be 8 years or older; we cannot allow fostering in homes with children under 8.
Foster dogs should be available for adoption events two Saturdays a month, with arrangements made to accommodate your schedule.
New fosters without prior experience must volunteer some Saturdays before being allowed to take in a foster dog.
Fosters will be required to sign forms before being permitted to foster.
